Postludium by Erno von Dohnanyi, is a virtuosic piece for solo piano filled to the brim with heightened emotions.

With both the shape of dynamics throughout the piece building to an expressive climax with the use of large chords in the right hand and a consistent flow of arpeggiation in the left hand, this piece is quite representative of Edmund’s emotions. Throughout The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Edmund is the sibling who is tormented by the corrupting influence of greed the most. The wide-range of dynamics and passions that this piece displays reflects the conflicting emotions that Edmund dealt with as he saw the negative consequence that came from his covetousness, as he thought, “The only way to comfort himself now was to try to believe that the whole thing was a dream” (Lewis 114). Edmund was starting to see the true, cruel form of the White Witch, knew he had gotten himself ensnared by her temptations of power, and wished to escape her tight grasp.

Sincerely,

Arianna M
