Kinderszenen: Wichtige Begebenheit (An Important Event) by Robert Schumann is a very triumphant piece that truly embodies the spirit of the Pevensie children after defeating the White Witch.
With this solo piano piece being part of the “Scenes from Childhood” set written to embody the lively spirit of children, this piece in particular demonstrates the formal yet exciting joy of an ‘important event’. With the large chords that are constantly played throughout the piece along with the strong accents, this piece certainly does have a pompous and proud manner. Additionally, written in the key of A major, this powerful work takes some of the intensity off the dramatic chords with the more playful ‘middle’ section. Just as Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy would have felt proud and victorious after defeating the Witch, I imagine this piece would sum up their mood entirely, particularly after they were crowned the kings and queens of Narnia.
I hope you enjoy!
