This enchanting work is one that focuses on the incredible sacrifice and selflessness of Jesus.
This beautiful violin solo connects two commonly known Christian works and creates a wonderful new message with them. Hallelujah, with this version in the key of C major, is very uplifting and cheerful. In my mind, whenever I play this section, I always think of the lyrics by Leonard Cohen when it states, “I’ve heard there was a secret chord that David played and it pleased the Lord.” Oftentimes music is used as worship and a way to express joy and throughout this entire version, I believe that it really does express the wonder and praise for God. Additionally, just like in Narnia when Mr Tumnus plays his enchanting solo on his pipes, the second section of this piece, Amazing Grace tells a tale that is hauntingly beautiful yet full of sadness as it talks about being lost and finally being given freedom through Jesus.
Amazing Grace Lyrics:
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now am found
Was blind but now I see
Was Grace that taught my heart to fear
And Grace, my fears relieved
How precious did that Grace appear
The hour I first believed
Through many dangers, toils and snares
We have already come
T'was Grace that brought us safe thus far
And Grace will lead us home
And Grace will lead us home
Thanks for listening!
